New to me 19-5 |

Hello all, just picked up my first for 09, a 1983 vintage 19-5 6". Finish is kind of bad but mechanically perfect and even has it's orignal grips,
they need to have HD's touch though! They look old and beatup. My 1st 6" K frame mag, has plain blk rear sight and patridge front, took the side plate
off to oil the internals and it was the first time since it left the factory that the side plate had been off, screws were still torked down. Will be headed to
the range mid week for my first rounds through her, lockup is tight with zero end shake. Here she is:

HD it's nframe357(Mike), my screen name got changed somehow? We're taking it to the range on Wed for it's first outing with us, the finish well.
It's not as bad as it was initailly described to me but it's pretty rough, on the right side is some light pitting along the first 1.5" of barrel,
combined with lot's of muzzle holster wear I'd call it 75% finish. I'm guessing that it was at some point carried extensively in a duty type
holster as the right grip panel has wear also from an arm moving on it, looks just like a couple of older police weps that I used to have. She isn't
perfect but S&W doesn't make them like that anymore, and the way things are going this could be my last chance for a reasonably priced model 19!

Very nice, nframe357, That is a nice example of a very fine revolver. I wore one of those on duty in the early 1980's. It should do you well.

Nice. Doesn't look all that "used" to me. Especially for a gun that has probably seen a good deal of active service in the last quarter century.
Now... the range report.

Sorry for the delay, computer issues me and technolgy don't mix! She shot great, hit to point of aim with both loads that I tried, and recoil wasn't as
bad as i'd thought it might be (used to n frame 357's). Overall I'm very pleased with it, I've since touched up the finish and got a gorgeous
set of correct grips for it and now it looks as good as it shoots! Here's an updated pic:

HD, I used Formula 44/40, it worked really fast and it does a decent job. Finish isn't perfect by far but it looks a whole bunch better now. I applied it
with a Q tip, let it sit for a couple of minutes then wiped it down with Breakfree.

It's marketed by Brownells, the local range keeps it in stock. I've been using it for 4-5 years and it touches up bluing great. Bigger areas will
appear kind of blotchy though if you don't prep the area to be blued first.

Hi Mike,
As Ralph says that there is Nothing wrong with some honest wear. Guns with honest wear shows that the gun was used or carried for its intended purpose. A gun that was carried and shot is far more interesting to me than one that spent its life in a drawer. The 44/40 cold blue covers the shiny spots fine. There are some that do not like it but to each his own. We would all like to hear what stories a gun would tell if it were able to talk. I would prefer to hear stories of cold dark nights on the belt of a L E Officer than stories sitting in a safe.
